Grab Money to Hit Gold
Dr. Anongnat Somwangthanaroj was invited to be a guest at "Jab-Nguen-Chon-Tong" (Grab money to hit gold) TV Program on Channel 9 on May 24, 2007. Her talk was related to how the nanotechnology can be used in Thai industries. She also told the audiences about her research in polymer nanocomposites which can be used in automotive and packaging industries.  
 
MECTEC Graduate Lecture Series 2007
Our graduate core curriculum has been taught in English by foreign professors since June semester 2004. In the beginning the series was supported by MUA (now Ministry of Education). Last year and this year, Mectec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand) Ltd. has generously supported the series.  Professor Graham M. Harrison, a chemical engineering professor of Clemson University (South Carolina, USA) is our new visiting faculty. He teached 'Advanced Transport Phenomena' to a class of 135 MEng and DEng students. His research interests are in the general areas of non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, extensional flow, and renewable resource polymers. Experimental optical techniques are employed to investigate polymer solutions and melts in a wide range of flow geometries.
 
MECTEC Graduate Lecture Series 2007

Last year and this year, Mectec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand) Ltd. has generously supported the series.  Professor Jaime Wisniak from Ben-Gurian University of the Negev has been with us for 4 years. In picture, he is  lecturing Advanced Thermodynamics to a class of 124 students.

During January 17-26, 2007. Professor Jenifer L. Wilcox, Department of Chemcial Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute paid a visit to Department of Chemical Engineering.

The student of Excellence on Catalysis and Catalytic Reaction Engineering Group Mr.Supawat Vivanpatarakij will oral present in "The sixth Intenational Symposium on Catalysis in Multiphase Reactors (CAMURE-6) and the fifth International Symposium on Multifunctional Reactors (ISMR-5)" which held on 14-17 January 2007. In National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India. This Conference is organized by National Chemical Laboratory Pune, India.

Assist.Prof.Varong Pavarajarn will go to participate in 31st International Cocoa Beach Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceamics and Composites, he will present on "Porous Silicon Nitride Synthesis from the Carbothermal Reduction and Nitridation of Silica/RF Gel Composite", at USA between January 21-26, 2007.

Visitors from The Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China
On September 4th, the representative from The Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China has visited the department of chemical engineering and Center of Excellence on Catalysis and Catalytic Reaction Engineering. The group from China have discussed with Assoc.Prof.Chairit Satayaprasert, president of The Thai Institute of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and Prof.Piyasan Praserthdam.
 
Assoc. Prof. Ura Pancharoen Go to Czech Republic
 
Assoc.Prof.Ura Pancharoen will go to participate in The17th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering, he will present on “Feasibility Study on the Separation of Uranium and Thorium by a Hollow Fiber Supported Liquid Membrane and Mass Transfer Modeling”, at Praha, Czech Republic, between August 27 - 31, 2006 and he visit to Mr. Prakorn, Ph.D. candidate who has got The Royal Golden Jubilee Ph.D Program-TRF continue his researching at Bratislavl, Slovakia between September 1-10, 2006.

University of Melbourne who are going to be carrying out senior projects under the topics of: 1. Hydrolysis of Rened Coconut Oil with Butyric Acid - Advisor: Assoc. Prof. Decha Chatsiriwech Students: James Dwyer and Brendon Edwards 2. Adsorption of heavy metals using activated carbon from Eucalyptus bark - Advisor: Assoc. Prof. Prasert Pavasant Students: Kara Bell and Chris Terry They will stay with us for a period of 4 weeks starting from June 26 to July 21, 2006

A Wai Khru Ceremony
On Thursday June 29, 2006. the students and professor of chemical engineering department will held a Wai Khru ceremony (students pay respect to the teachers) as every year. The ceremony is held at Room 4103, Building 4 at 12:00-1:00 PM.
 
Visiting Professor from Canada
Associate Professor Tony Yeung, Chemical Engineering Professor from University of Alberta, Canada will stay at the department for 5 weeks from June 28, 2006 till August 4, 2006. Associate Professor Tony Yeung will tech our graduate course, “Advanced Transport Phenomena”. His office is on the 10th floor, Engineering Building No 4.

Mektec Manufacturing Corporation (Thailand) Ltd. has been generously supported the activities of our department in turn of funding. This year Mektec has supported the expense for inviting Professor from Canada and Isarael to tech the 4 required course of Graduate curriculum. On Wednesday 14th of June Khun Sathid Jitjongrak, Gerneral Manager, khun Pramote Kesisamang, Senior Manager, khun Tossaporn Khumsupt, Dept Manager will preside over the funding ceremony at Room 415 Building 3. All new graduate students, The Chairman, Professor Hector Budman, and Director of Graduate Study, Dr.Montree Wongsri will attend the ceremony.

Dr.Sorada Kanokpanont Go to Japan
Dr.Sorada Kanokpanont received a research fellowship from The Thailand - Japan Technology Transfer Project (TJTTP) to conduct research since July 1– August 31, 2006. The research title is “Controlled Release Technology for Tissue Engineering " at Kyoto University, Japan.
 
Dr.Wit Soontaranun Go to Netherlands
During the period of June 17-25, 2006. Dr.Wit Soontaranun visit to The Environmental Analysis Group of Wageningen University, Netherlands to discuss the progress of PhD thesis of Warit Jawjit on thesis titled “Environmental System Analysis for Industry in Thailand” under INFREF programme /AGITS and make a discuss with co-adviser about his thesis.

Department of Chemical Engineering is set seminar on “Cooperative Internship Program” on June 2, 2006 at Meeting Hall, 2rd Floor, Engineering 4 Building, Faculty of Engineering. The seminar features the selected summer work of third years ChE students.
 
New Graduate Students
This June semester the department of Chemical Engineering accepted 160 new master student and 17 doctoral student. Then 4 doctoral students from Bangladesh, Vietnum, Mexico, and Indonesia.

New Graduate Student Orientation
June 2006. New graduate student orientation will be held on Thursday, May 11 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Plan to attend ! The session will include welcome speaker by the department chairman and the graduate program director and presentation on “Being a Successful Graduate Student” by Dr. Tharathon Mongkhonsi. The day is on opportunity to meet your fellow new grad student and be oriented to important campus and academic information. Lunch will be provided. Please note orientation for new industry program graduation students will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 8:00 AM – 12:00 noon.
 
Two Graduates Student Working for the Corporation Project on LNG
Two graduates student, Asma Hendeen and Chaiwat Chuliwanlee, working for the corporation project on LNG tanker simulator between Control and Systems Engineering Research Lab and STI (Korea) come back from Seoul to discuss the project with Dr.Montree Wongsri and Dr.Steve Stein at the department on May 2, 2006.

Dr.Sorada Kanokpanont and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Siriporn Damrongsakkul presented their works on dermal regeneration template for artificial skin to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in the US-Thai Symposium on Biomedical Engineering in Thailand, 12-15 December, 2005.

In 2006 the Department Accepts 4 New Foreign Graduate Student
This year, the department accepts 4 new foreign graduate students coming from Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Mexico. Mr.Do Doc Hai (Vietnam) and Mr.Arenst Andreas (Indonesia) will study Center of Excellence on Catalysis and Catalytic Reaction and Control and Systems Engineering Research Laboratory for their Doctoral degrees respectively. Mr.Hasan Moinuddin Zakee (Bangladesh) and Mr.Esteban Abelardo Hernandez Vargas (Mexico) will study in Control and Systems Engineering Research Laboratory for their Master degrees.
 
Training New Graduate Students on Dynamic Process Simulation
The Control and Systems Engineering Research Laboratory (by Dr.Montree Wongsri) is now collaborated with Texacal (Thailand) and STI (website:www.simulationtech.co.kr) in training new graduate students. New course on Dynamic Process Simulation will be offered by the department in June 2006. Selected students will have a 1-year training in Korea. Prospective students working should contact Dr.montree for more information.

On March 2, 2006. Vinythai Public Company Limited mission, It was produce and sell PVC resins and Caustic Soda in Asia paid a visit to the department of chemical engineering to discuss about collaboration on education and research.
 
The Department Admitted New Students
In 2005, the department admitted 124 new master students and 7 doctoral students (including 4 foreign students). The second graduate admission begins February 15, 2006 through March 15, 2006.

Professor Dr. Milan Hronec Visit to Department of Chemical Engineering
Professor Dr. Milan Hronec from the Department of Organic Technology, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava as our guest during a month of January through February, 2006. The objective of his visit is to establish a close academic collaboration based on the Memorandum signed between Department of Chemical Engineering.
 
The Forth Year Chemical Engineering Student Received AIChE Thailand Club Scholarship
Mr.Issara Sereewatthanawut, The Forth Year Chemical Engineering Student at Chulalongkorn University, he received AIChE Thailand Club Scholarship, which sponsored to work as an intern engineer at the International Test Centre for CO2 Capture at the University of Regina, Canada “The research conducted at the research centre focused on carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and sequestration, an important issue that has an impact on the global climate. I found this opportunity not only allowed me to improve my scientific and analytical skills but also my communication skills. Apart from these mentioned skills, the experiences gained from this valuable opportunity also have allowed me to improve my personal skills. For those who are considering internship abroad and thinking that it is hard to find the place, be advised that “opportunities” are all around. You simply have to be motivated enough to sought them out”.
